Unit 3 Reflection

Originally I had planned to do a podcast, but due to scheduling conflicts with my guest, I had to scrap that idea, and find something new. So, for my Unit 3 project, I made a chatbot. I thought it would be a fun and interactive way to present my topic instead of writing another essay. Since my focus was on how tech and social media affect the way we act, think, and talk, it made sense to use something that people actually interact with in real life. A chatbot gave people a chance to explore those ideas in a more hands-on way.  My audience was mostly classmates. I thought about how many of them already use AI tools like ChatGPT. Instead of reading a long blog post, they could just ask the bot questions and get quick, helpful responses. It made the experience feel more natural and personal, just like a real conversation. I posted the chatbot to my blog and added a short message at the top to explain what it was. I told readers the chatbot would guide them through a conversation abo...

Unit 3 Final

You need to enable JavaScript in order to use the AI chatbot tool powered by ChatBot . Ask ChatBot About Social Media! There should be a ChatBot button in the bottom right corner!! Explore the impact of social media through selected topics. Ask ChatBot about films like The Social Network or A Social Life , or dive deeper into the pros and cons of social media use in teens. Try asking things like: "What did The Social Network teach us about ambition and ethics online?" "How does A Social Life show the pressure of online appearance?" "What are some proven mental health effects of social media in teens?" "Can you explain how social media sites affect society?"

Unit 3 Graphic Novels

Image
Graphic Novel: Persepolis - Marjane Satrapi Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi is a graphic novel that tells the story of her childhood in Iran during and after the Islamic Revolution. The book follows Marji as she grows up and tries to understand the world around her, including war, religion, and unfair treatment of people based on class and gender. Technology is not the main focus of the book, but it appears in important ways, mainly through access to education and communication. On page 35, Marji talks about how her family’s maid, Mehri, never learned to read or write because of her social class. This shows how people from lower classes didn’t have the same opportunities to learn. To help, Marji wrote love letters for Mehri, pretending they were from her. This moment shows how something simple, like knowing how to write, can be a powerful tool. The graphic novel format helps tell the story in a clear and emotional way. The drawings show what people are feeling, and they make serio...

Unit 3 Reddit

The Endless Thread podcast episode “League of Extraordinary Trolls” talks about how some Reddit users take over hateful communities and turn them into something funny or positive. After exploring a few of these communities mentioned in the episode, I saw how humor was being used to change the tone. Instead of hate or negativity, the posts were lighthearted, silly, or even wholesome. It was surprising how different the atmosphere felt compared to what the subreddit originally stood for. This kind of change shows how Reddit can be more than just a place for toxic conversations. When users work together, they can turn something harmful into something creative or even uplifting. The podcast explains that these changes are not just for laughs, they’re a way of taking power back and fighting hate in a unique, peaceful way ( Endless Thread , 2018). My main takeaway is that Reddit isn’t just good or bad, it depends on how people use it. The platform gives users a lot of control, which means...

Unit 2 Reflection

Unit 2 Reflection For this piece, I chose an audience of high school and college students, primarily because they are among the most active users of social media and are directly impacted by its effects on communication and relationships. I wanted to reach an audience that could see their own experiences reflected in the topic. Since social media is so integrated into the daily lives of younger people, it made sense to focus on how it shapes friendships, self-image, and the way people connect. High school and college students are at the center of today’s social media culture. They interact with digital platforms daily—often using them to build friendships, maintain relationships, and explore their identities. Knowing this, I focused on examples and references that would directly connect with their experiences. For instance, I mentioned well-known platforms like Instagram and TikTok and described familiar behaviors like posting workout pictures or sharing daily highlights. I also select...

Unit 2 Portfolio

Unit 2 Final Portfolio In today’s digital age, social media has become a dominant force in how people communicate and connect with one another. From sharing life updates to staying in touch with distant friends and family, platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok have reshaped how relationships function. For many, social media offers convenience, connection, and even community—allowing users to build networks that stretch across cities, countries, and continents. At the same time, this shift toward online interaction has raised important questions about authenticity, emotional well-being, and the quality of our relationships. This essay argues that social media has had a profound impact on the way people in modern society interact within relationships—whether those are with close friends, family members, or complete strangers online. It has fundamentally altered how we form, maintain, and even perceive our social connections. While these platforms have made it easier than ...

Unit 2 Draft

Unit 2 Draft -  main line of argument:  social media has had a profound impact on the way that people in modern society interact within relationships, whether that be with friends, families, or strangers on the internet. Intro -  Social media is a dominant force in modern communication, shaping interactions between friends, family, and strangers. It fosters connection and accessibility but also raises concerns about authenticity and relationship quality. This discussion will explore both the positive and negative impacts of social media on relationships. Source 1 - Social Network: My first source is the 2010 film The Social Network , directed by David Fincher. It follows a young Mark Zuckerberg as he creates Facebook—reshaping not only the internet but also human relationships. The film highlights how social media transformed the way we interact, shifting from personal blogs and face-to-face communication to friend requests, status updates, and online validation. In...
